EXIM Statement on Passing of Former U.S. Senator and EXIM Board Member Max Cleland
WASHINGTON - Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM) Acting President and Chair James Burrows today issued the following statement on the passing of former U.S. Senator Max Cleland (D-GA), who served on EXIM's Board of Directors from December 2003 until July 2007:
"The entire EXIM family mourns the loss of former U.S. Senator Max Cleland. Above and beyond his distinguished career in our nation's military and the United States Senate, Senator Cleland was an invaluable leader in guiding EXIM during his three-and-a-half years of service on our Board of Directors. He helped sharpen EXIM's focus on strengthening export financing for U.S. small businesses, especially in rural communities. He was always very patient and gracious to EXIM customers and staff alike, and we appreciated his warm presence on the Board of Directors and in our agency. We send our condolences to his family, and, as we approach Veterans Day, we offer our deepest thanks for his lifetime of service to our great nation."
