EXIM Adopts Code of Business Conduct and Ethics to Reinforce High Expectations for Agency Staff
WASHINGTON - The Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM) today published a new Code of Business Conduct and Ethics, which outlines the enhanced standards intended to guide employees as they help the agency fulfill its mission of supporting U.S. jobs by facilitating the export of "Made in the USA" goods and services.
The Code is a compilation that references existing EXIM policies as well as applicable laws and regulations. It explains the goals and expectations for the conduct of directors, officers, and employees of EXIM, and it provides clear principles for ethical decision-making and conduct. It is effective as of April 14, 2020.
"Before arriving at EXIM, I committed to reforming the way the agency conducts business with specific emphasis on transparency and accountability," said EXIM President and Chairman Kimberly A. Reed. "This Code of Business Conduct and Ethics, which is being provided to all EXIM staff and released publicly, outlines the way we at EXIM choose to do business and the principles we consider key to our success. EXIM has an important mission to fulfill as we support American jobs by facilitating U.S. exports, and we will meet that challenge head on, guided by honesty and integrity above all."
"As EXIM's chief ethics officer, I am very pleased that management has taken this important step towards holding ourselves to high ethical standards and greater accountability, thereby helping to earn the trust of the public we serve," said Senior Vice President and Chief Ethics Officer Lisa Terry.
The Code details EXIM's business values - integrity, accountability, stewardship, commitment to excellence, customer-focused, innovation - and beliefs. It is intended to complement EXIM's Strategic Plan, which outlines the agency's key goals and serves as a roadmap for fulfilling its congressional mandate following the agency's recent reauthorization.
Underscoring EXIM's commitment to transparency, the Code of Business Conduct and Ethics can be accessed here on EXIM's website.
ABOUT EXIM:
EXIM is an independent federal agency that promotes and supports American jobs by providing competitive and necessary export credit to support sales of U.S. goods and services to international buyers. A robust EXIM can level the global playing field for U.S. exporters when they compete against foreign companies that receive support from their governments. EXIM also contributes to U.S. economic growth by helping to create and sustain hundreds of thousands of jobs in exporting businesses and their supply chains across the United States. In recent years, approximately 90 percent of the total number of the agency's authorizations has directly supported small businesses. Since 1992, EXIM has generated more than $9 billion for the U.S. Treasury for repayment of U.S. debt.
