Meets with Small Businesses and Exporters to Promote Make More in America Initiative

WASHINGTON – President and Chair of the Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM) Reta Jo Lewis concluded a successful visit to Miami on Friday, where she spoke at the Smart City Expo USA 2022 conference, addressed the U.S. Conference of Mayors, and met with key stakeholders.

EXIM Chair Lewis speaking in a Panel DiscussionChair Lewis participated in a panel discussion at the Smart City Expo, “Achieving Our 2030 Climate Goals.” During her remarks, she emphasized EXIM’s commitment to supporting clean energy projects that accelerate the global energy transition leveraging American exports. Chair Lewis also outlined additional priorities, such as the Make More in America Initiative and the China and Transformational Exports Program, which will help reshore American jobs and reorient supply chains in sectors like semiconductors and solar panels.

“In all that we do, EXIM supports America’s economic competitiveness and the jobs that will power smart cities into the next generation,” said Chair Lewis. “EXIM’s China and Transformational Exports Program and Make More in America Initiative are two tools that will help advance those efforts as we build more resilient supply chains.”

While in Miami, Chair Lewis also met with EXIM customers, lenders, and small businesses around the region, including TUUCI, Ben Kaufman Sales Co., and Regions Bank. She also hosted two roundtable discussions in partnership with the World Trade Center Miami and Public Private Strategies, respectively. The former conversation focused on EXIM’s Regional Export Promotion Program. At the latter, co-hosts and participants included the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, eMerge America, the Miami-Dade Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce, CF Creative, the Miami Group, Miami-Dade County, Verizon, Lenovo, Altura Capital, Go Digital Hero, Ebernum Equation, Cisco, the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce, and Half Moon Empanadas.

Finally, Chair Lewis joined mayors from across the country for a conversation led by U.S. Conference of Mayors President Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, CEO and Executive Director Tom Cochran, and Mayor of Reno Hillary Schieve.
