Export-Import Bank of the U.S. Chair Lewis Addresses Global Export Conference in Athens

Athens, Greece – Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM) President and Chair Reta Jo Lewis traveled to Athens, Greece last week to participate in Exile Group’s Global 2024 Export, Development and Project Finance conference. While in Athens, Chair Lewis also held a series of meetings with banking sector representatives, as well as elected officials and private sector companies to discuss EXIM’s commitment to supporting U.S. exporters who want to do business in Greece.

“EXIM is committed to building relationships with our partners in Greece to strengthen business ties and enhance economic cooperation between our two countries,” said Chair Lewis. “It was a pleasure to underscore EXIM’s firm commitment to deepening the U.S.-Greece commercial relationship and our ability to finance projects that will drive the global energy transition.”

On Wednesday, Chair Lewis participated in a panel discussion during the conference on ensuring a green and equitable global transition, where she underscored EXIM’s commitment to supporting renewable and green energy projects. She also held a series of meetings with banking sector representatives, where they discussed opportunities to collaborate in support of U.S. exporters.

On Thursday, Chair Lewis held a meeting with U.S. Ambassador to Greece George Tsunis, where she underscored how EXIM financing can support U.S. companies looking to do business in Greece. She also met with Greece Minister of Finance Kostis Hatzidakis, Minister of Energy and Environment Theodoros Skylakakis, Secretary General for International Economic Affairs Maira Myrogianni, Export Credit Greece CEO Gregory Stamatopoulos, and Enterprise Greece CEO Marianos Giannopoulos. During the meetings, Chair Lewis emphasized EXIM’s commitment to bolstering the U.S.-Greece commercial relationship and the role EXIM financing can play in supporting projects involving U.S. exporters, including renewable energy projects, in Greece.

On Friday, Chair Lewis participated in a roundtable discussion hosted by the American-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce with private sector representatives, where she underscored EXIM’s desire to do more to support U.S. exporters and their customers in Greece.
