Minneapolis, Minnesota – Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM) President and Chair Reta Jo Lewis traveled to the Twin Cities last week to meet with biotechnology leaders and local elected officials to underscore EXIM’s commitment to supporting Minnesota exports and the biotechnology industry.

“EXIM has financing tools that are uniquely positioned to support U.S. biotechnology exports, and we are eager to play a role in whole of government efforts to bolster U.S. competitiveness in this transformational sector – a priority we share with members of Congress,” said Chair Lewis. “We are committed to meeting our congressional mandate to support transformational exports and are eager to continue building upon our work in this critical space.”

On Wednesday, Chair Lewis addressed the 2024 BioMADE Member Meeting conference, a gathering of biotechnology industry leaders and U.S. government representatives focused on advances in the sector. Chair Lewis highlighted EXIM’s Make More in America domestic financing initiative and EXIM’s China and Transformational Exports Program (CTEP), which provides financing flexibilities for certain transformational sectors including biotechnology. She then held a series of meetings with biotechnology companies, where she emphasized the agency’s commitment to financing projects involving bio-tech exporters to meet EXIM’s congressional mandate.

Later that day, Chair Lewis met with Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, where she provided an update on EXIM’s $510 million in authorizations since 2014 to support Minnesota companies that export overseas and discussed opportunities to collaborate to build upon the agency’s strong work in the state.
