Export-Import Bank of the U.S. Senior Team Meets with Bulgarian Minster of Energy to Discuss Nuclear Energy Financing
Washington, D.C. – On Tuesday, February 11, Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM) Senior Advisors and other Senior EXIM Staff met with Bulgaria’s Minister of Energy, Zhecho Stankov, and Petyo Ivanov, CEO of Kozloduy NPP – New Build EAD. The meeting focused on next steps following the $8.6 billion Letter of Interest issued by EXIM for the financing of two new reactors at the Kozloduy NPP – New Build location. EXIM is prepared to support American energy dominance, consistent with President Trump’s agenda by financing nuclear energy investments in Bulgaria which support American businesses, create jobs and prosperity for families and workers in America, and reduce the global influence of malign and adversarial states.
During the meeting, Minister Stankov discussed with EXIM Senior Advisors Bryce McFerran and José Cunningham financing for the construction of two Westinghouse AP 1000 nuclear reactors. The meeting addressed EXIM’s broad range of financing tools for nuclear projects, highlighting the Engineering Multiplier Program (EMP).
EXIM has experience financing large-scale nuclear energy projects as well as financing engineering feasibility studies including the recent $98 million loan to RoPower Nuclear S.A. This loan will support pre-project services necessary for the development of a first-of-kind small modular nuclear reactor (SMR), as part of EXIM’s China and Transformational Exports Program (CTEP).
