Senior Vice President, Global Trade Finance and Services | Regions Bank
Thomas F. Matthias is a Global Trade Sales Officer for trade finance and trade banking services in Regions’ Global Trade Finance Department. In this capacity, he is responsible for delivering customized trade finance solutions for Regions’ clients engaged in international business. Mr. Matthias joined Regions Bank in 2016 as Vice President with trade finance and trade banking business development responsibilities for the Georgia East Tennessee, North Carolina, Senior Vice President Global Trade Finance and Services South Carolina and Virginia markets.
Mr. Matthias has been involved in International Markets for the past 25 years. Prior to joining Regions Bank, Mr. Matthias was First Vice President at SunTrust Bank in the same role and was previously President and CEO of IMEX Financing LLC where he was responsible for all financial matters regarding customers of IMEX Financing, LLC, and was responsible for the vision, business development and strategy of the company. IMEX Financing, LLC was a leading international trade financing advisory and consulting firm specializing in US Ex-Im Bank and IFC financing programs. Prior to forming IMEX Financing, Mr. Matthias was a Vice President in the International Trade Banking Group at Sovereign Bank-Santander. SovereignSantander Bank, during Mr. Matthias' tenure, was one of the leading American banks with significant experience with US and International Export agencies i.e. Ex-Im Bank, USDA, OPIC, IFC, etc. At Sovereign Bank Mr. Matthias was charged with increasing the bank’s exposure in international markets
Before joining SovereignBank Mr. Matthias was the Lead Credit Officer at the Export-Import Bank of the United States responsible for Asia, Africa, the Caribbean, the Middle East, and Small & Medium Enterprises. In this position, Mr. Matthias was responsible for analyzing and researching complex activities relating to diverse portfolio transactions including asset-based, pre-export financing, working capital guarantees, short and medium-term insurance, and medium and long-term loan guarantee transactions for all the bank’s markets.
Mr. Matthias began his career in the mid-1990s at Globalvest Management Company, a leading Latin American equity hedge fund manager with over $1.3 billion in assets. Mr. Matthias holds a bachelor’s degree in Finance from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA and a master’s degree in business administration from George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
